Livestock at Woolfest

Woolfest

On Friday Agnes, Maureen and Sandra went to Woolfest. It was a lovely drive up through the lakes and we arrived just in time for tea and coffee!

Woolfest is always a very pleasant day out as it is different to any of the other shows and has a very friendly rural atmosphere all of its own.

As you can see from the photos it was very colourful and we came back full of ideas.

Maureen bought some deep red and grey wool tops to make felt cushions, Agnes bought all sorts of beautifully coloured wool and curly pieces to add to her stash and Sandra bought a large piece of leather to embroider with cave art animals!

Sandra's favourite exhibits of the show are the animals that supply the fibres.

Inspiration for an Embroidery

Dorothy was out and about with her cousin from New Zealand when she came across this beautiful pattern on a fire place in the waiting room at Garsdale station. Some time in the future there might be an embroidery inspired from this design!

Wrapping with a Little Textile Treasure

Ann brought along her small embroidery she made last month and then set about framing it with wrapped straws. The result was this pretty jewel-coloured work of art.

June Meeting Wrapping with Sandra Kendall

This month our regular session was taken by Sandra Kendall who is herself a member of our Guild. The session was on wrapping and how it can be incorporated into our work to add interest, texture and raise the surface. Members set about wrapping pipe cleaners to make a tree in an embroidered garden, wrapping dowelling to make a frame for a Byzantine style piece and straws to make an abstract colour piece. You can see some pictures of work in progress. We are looking forward to some finished pieces at the next meetings!

Roses

Gillian has been very busy making these beautiful stump work roses which she intends to incorporate into a hanging.
We are all looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
