July Meeting 2012

This month's meeting was given over to members to continue with their own projects.
Some members also volunteered to help regenerate the next Folio entitled Stitches - developing. We have completed seven  embroideries, four or five are half finished and we are aiming for twentyfour!

Jennifer brought along additional illuminated letters that had been inspired by last month's workshop. One is the letter J, her initial, used for a book cover. The other two are for her grandchildren.

I am sure Jennifer's grandchildren will love these letters when they are both completed.
Thank you Jennifer

Illuminated Letter

Dorothy has finished her letter by embroidering the small squares and adding beads. The rich colours look absolutely beautiful and I love the way you get additional patterns from the cross stitches next to each other. Thank you Dorothy!

Illuminated Letters June Meeting 2012

Our June Meeting was led by Sandra Kendall one of our own members who showed us how to make and embroider Illuminated Letters. Sandra brought some letters with her that she had made after seeing an article in Stitch where the members of the Lincoln Branch had been inspired by the 14C Luttrell Psalter.

Sample letters
The letters were painted and stitched in rich colours.
Sandra had produced a pack for each member containing a computer print of an Illuminated letter on abaca tissue, heat n bond and a computer print out to work out the colour scheme.
There was silence in the room as members painted their letters carefully after choosing their colours.

Painted letters

After members had painted their letters they screwed up their tissue and then attached it to the heat n bond to give an aged look.
One of our members had time to start to machine around her letter.

Members then took the partly finished letters home to complete with embroidery and beads.
Thank you Sandra for a good day.

Scissor Keeper and Needlecase May Meeting 2012

Scissor Keeper
This month we welcomed Val Osborn who showed us how to make a Scissor keeper and Needlecase in canvas work. We started on the Scissor Keeper and Val demonstrated Norfolk stitch and informed us how many pattern repeats we needed.

We were then shown how to finish off the Scissor Keeper by folding it and joining the edges and stuffing slightly. A cord and a tassel were added to complete the embroidery.

Val demonstrated Double Gobelin Stitch to make the cover for the Needlecase.

We were then shown how to finish the Needlecase by lining it and adding ties.
A very enjoyable session and not much to finish at home!

Wallhanging

4 x 4 wallhanging
Dorothy put her squares in patterns of four and then hung those as a group of four. She used writing and metallic paint to colour the original papers before cutting them and then rejoining them several times. Well done Dorothy!
